Digital marketing Review
Digital
marketing Review
The Digital marketing course in Ofiach Institute of
Further Education is a course that I luckily picked for my progression route
into third level. Looking back at my seven months that I have already spent in
this course I have found it interesting, adaptable to everyday media and easy
if taken step by step and do the assignments on time.
I like the module on public relations because it
focuses campaigns to make a firm, individual or social group look a certain way
in the public eye. We learned about the upsides and downsides to PR and also
learned about how celebrities hire PR consultants to advise them on how to deal
with the mainstream media. Public Relations is used by mostly well-known
individuals like celebrities, politicians and firms.
Advertising like digital marketing in some sense is
how companies market their brand/product. We learned in class about what makes
a good advertisement. What are the down sides when companies put out negative
advertising and what are the rewards of a good advert?
For our project we were looking up how companies like
coca cola market their product and what time of the season is the best for
marketing for each multinational company. I personally dug into some research
on coca colas advertising and found out that the best time of the year for coca
cola to advertise was the Christmas season, it is also the time of year when
individuals buy a lot of products and enter stores to look at things and if they
find it appealing they purchase it.
Economics is another module on the digital marketing
course and one that I like very much. We first learned about types of
government structures, free market, closed market economy and mixed economy. We
learned about the advantages and disadvantages of each economic structure and
how it impacts the economy. We then learned about market structures and how
they differ from one another, perfect competition, imperfect competition,
monopoly and oligopoly. We had two assignments each worth 30% and an exam which
is worth 40%.
Behavioural Studies is another module out of the
course that I like. We first learned about types of leadership and how it
shapes individuals and the way they commute to the masses. We got an assignment
to do and we each had to pick a leader to write about. I got Senator John
McCain and I got a lot of information on him. We then learned about culture and
about how brands must shape itself in every cultures image. We got an
assignment where we picked a brand each and we had to write about how it
differs in three different countries. We are doing to get an exam at the end of
the school semester worth 60% on everything we have learned so far on the
module.
From my opinion desk top publishing is the most
straight forward module out of the eleven that I and my classmates had to do.
The first thing we had to create on publisher was an application form worth
12%, then we had an exam worth 30%. We then had to create a brochure which was
not that difficult in my opinion it only took me a day. Our last assignment was
a magazine which took us four weeks to complete, it was also a 30% assignment.
